What is a syphilis test?
The syphilis test is a blood test (serological test).
- A small amount of blood is taken from the vein.
- The sample is sent to Dr. Risch's laboratory where it is tested for antibodies against the Treponema pallidum bacterium.
- The analysis for syphilis is complex. We need to know whether you have ever been infected with syphilis.
When is the test useful?
A test makes sense from 6 weeks after a risk situation. Only then can antibodies be reliably detected in the blood.
How does the analysis work?
- The blood sample is examined using a screening test (RPR/VDRL).
- If this is positive, you will be asked to take a confirmation test.
- Only if both tests are positive is the result considered a confirmed infection.
Special notes
- If you have already had a syphilis infection in the past, a so-called follow-up check is required. Please let the counselor know.
- If infection markers are found, you will receive a text message from us asking you to visit a specialist for a confirmation test. We will also send you the laboratory results, which you can present directly.
Why is the test important?
- If detected early, syphilis is easily treatable with antibiotics.
- Early diagnosis prevents serious long-term consequences.
- Important: If an infection is confirmed, it is important that sexual partners are informed so that they can also be tested and treated.
When will I receive my result?
The result is usually available 2 to 5 days after the blood sample is taken. You will receive a text message from us informing you of the next steps.
You can either drop by spontaneously or book an appointment here.
