What are chlamydia and gonorrhea?
Chlamydia and gonococcus are bacterial infections that can be transmitted through sexual contact - e.g:
- Petting and oral sex
- Penetrative sex
- Shared use of sex toys
- In rare cases even when kissing
Both infections can be treated well with antibiotics if they are detected early.
How does the test work?
- This is a smear test in which small samples of mucous membrane are taken.
- The procedure is painless.
- Depending on sexual practices and body characteristics, swabs are taken at different points:
- Throat
- Urethra (in people with a penis)
- Vaginal mucosa (in people with a vulva)
- Anus
- The samples are preserved in special tubes and sent to the Dr. Risch laboratory for analysis.
What happens if the result is positive?
- If chlamydia or gonococci are found, you will receive a text message asking you to go to a specialist medical center and start antibiotic treatment.
- It is also important that sex partners are informed so that they too can be tested and treated.
When will I receive the result?
The result is usually available 2 to 5 days after the smear test.
