What are Chlamydia and Gonorrhea?
Chlamydia and gonorrhea are bacterial infections that can spread through sexual contact, like:
- Petting and oral sex
- Penetrative sex
- Sharing sex toys
- Even kissing, in rare cases
Both infections can be easily treated with antibiotics if caught early.
How does the test work?
- It's a swab test where we take small samples from your mucous membranes.
- The process is painless.
- Depending on your sexual practices and body, swabs are taken from different areas:
- Throat
- Urethra (for people with a penis)
- Vaginal lining (for people with a vulva)
- Anus
- The samples are preserved in special tubes and sent to Dr. Risch's lab for analysis.
What happens if my test is positive?
- If chlamydia or gonorrhea is found, you'll get a text message telling you to see a doctor and start antibiotic treatment.
- It's also important to let your sexual partners know so they can get tested and treated too.
When will I get my results?
You'll usually get your results 2 to 5 days after your swab.
